Driver Recruiting Initiative

Caledonia, Ontario – Long time industry veteran carrier J.G. Drapeau recently launched a program to recruit entry level drivers into the trucking industry. Partnering with KRTS, they are using their trailers that travel across all of North America, but more specifically in Ontario, to encourage people interested in getting their license to do so at a professional truck training school. Matt Richardson from KRTS says, “We welcome the opportunity to partner with great carriers like J.G. Drapeau. Margaret does an excellent job of recruiting drivers and showing that she cares about entry level drivers and their future in the industry.”

It is said that success breeds success, an aphorism that aptly describes the Quebec-based Diesel Spec Inc., a specialist in Performance for Heavy Duty Diesel Engines and Electronic Control Modules (ECMs). Like many successful enterprises Diesel Spec began with a commitment to customer service and the delivery of professional expertise. In 1987 Diesel Spec opened its doors, initially as an engine performance service provider and repair shop. In keeping with the pace of change it shifted its services to ECM maintenance and repair in response to newly designed engines with electronic controls.

Casting Recruitment Net Farther

The driver shortage is nothing new. Some date it back to the 1980’s when it was thought that throwing money at the problem would alleviate the shortage. Recent updates confirm that the shortage is not only continuing but getting worst. The Canadian Trucking Alliance’s most recent study, Understanding the Truck Driver Supply and Demand Gap, says a scarcity of some 34,000 drivers is expected by 2024 based on current trends, with a possible increased shortage of 48,000 by the same year depending on how these trends change between now and then.
